Vitamin C in Skincare

Did you know this week was National Vitamin C Day? Offering amazing benefits to the skin, unsurprisingly, Vitamin C is the most searched for skincare ingredient – it’s definitely one of my favourites!

But what are the benefits?

Known for its antioxidant properties, the hero ingredient Vitamin C is widely praised for its ability to protect the skin against environmental stressors and improving the appearance of skin.

Brightens Dullness and Corrects Uneven Skin Tone.

When used on a regular basis, vitamin C serum can help to brighten dull skin by inhibiting the amount of melanin your pigment skin cells generate. Once you’ve added Vitamin C to your skincare regimen, you may start seeing noticeable improvements in as little as three weeks, while pigmentation can take two months to notice a significant change.

Reduces fine lines & wrinkles.

While Vitamin C can’t help to reverse the appearance of wrinkles that naturally develop, it can do wonders at reducing premature aging by protecting the skin from wrinkles caused by sun exposure. The ingredient is also vital in the production of collagen which will naturally help skin appear younger.
Protect against UV damage. When applied with sunscreen, a Vitamin C serum or moisturiser can increase the sun protection factor. The ingredient helps to boost antioxidant protection to neutralise the effects of UVA and UVB rays whilst also helping to reverse visible signs of sun damage – magic!

The good news is that Vitamin C is suited towards nearly all skin types whether your skin is aging, acne-prone, oily, combination or normal. Personally I love to use Vitamin C in the morning under sunscreen but you can also use PM without retinol. It’s also important to note that Vitamin C with high potency may be irritating on the skin so it is important to do a patch test prior to use.

Here are some of my favourite Vitamin C products:

ESPA Skin Radiance Intensive Serum – this serum is great at visibly brightening and helping to even the skin tone. With a blend of Vitamin C and a mix of Mulberry, Bearberry and Liquorice this helps to revitalise and boost radiance for glowing skin.

ESPA Overnight Hydration Therapy – an intensely hydrating overnight mask which will leave your skin feeling replenished and looking radiant. I love the combination of Chicory Root Extract, to reinforce the skin’s natural barrier function, Konjac Root and Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate and smooth, along with the Vitamin C.

You can shop ESPA’s products at our Spa.

Until next time,
Love,
