How to manage stress

Did you know that April was Stress Awareness Month? We hope you managed to indulge in some self-care and put yourself first. I wanted to share a reminder that, even though the month has now come to a close, avoiding stress and looking after your mental health is equally as important year-round.

Here are my best tips…

For me, it’s more a question of how I manage stress, and then recognising the triggers. This way I can be more effective in my action plan and have tools and resources in place that I know will help me turn my mindset around. Some of my favourite tools include:

  • Eating healthy and nutritious foods that fuel me.
  • Keeping to a decent routine and having some structure in place so I feel a sense of control over my life.
  • Sticking to my own morals and values so at the end of the day, I always know I’ve done my best.
  • Surrounding myself with positive and kind people who lift me up.
  • Accepting that we all have bad days and that is okay, they too shall pass.
  • Getting regular, good quality sleep and putting rest first when I feel particularly tired. Tiredness can make our brain think that things are much worse than they might actually be!
  • Try not to self-judge. I have learnt to let my feelings in and not become frustrated with myself when I feel overwhelmed.
  • Picking my battles! I know it’s hard but in a moment of stress, ask yourself what is really important in life, and what truly matters.
  • Practicing what I preach by looking after my body, perhaps a yoga class or massage!

For me, full time work with two young children (plus other commitments!) can be a juggle, so it’s really about organisation and setting realistic & achievable goals, to help me avoid self-doubt.

I’m very lucky to work in an industry where I get to help people de-stress every day and make others feel happy. That really does bring me the most amount of joy.

What are your top tips for managing stress?

Until next time,
