Summer Skincare Swaps

As the summer sun shines brighter and the temperatures rise, our skin requires special attention and care to stay healthy and radiant. The new (and very changeable!) season calls for a revamp of our skincare routines to ensure protection from harmful UV rays, increased hydration, and a beautiful summer glow. You don’t have to throw about all your favourites, but make sure you’re tailoring your products to suit the sunshine.

Still feeling a little lost in the complicated skincare world? If you’d like tailored advice for your skin, why not book in for an ESPA Personalised Facial, and your therapist can guide you on what products and treatment would work best for you!

  1. Shield Yourself with Sunscreen:

Sun protection should be the foundation of your summer skincare routine. It’s crucial to shield your skin from harmful UV damage and you’ll thank me in the years to come! I recommend you opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 (ideally factor 50 on the face) and then reapply it generously to all exposed areas of your body, including your face, neck, and hands, throughout the day. If you can, apply every two hours, especially if you’re in and out of the swimming pool!

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate:

Scorching summer heat can leave our skin dehydrated and dull. Combat this by increasing your water intake and incorporating hydrating products into your skincare routine. Look for lightweight moisturisers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and I also love aloe vera, which provides deep hydration without clogging pores.

  1. Lighten Up Your Products:

During the summer months, heavy creams and oils can feel suffocating on the skin. Swap them out for lighter alternatives such as gel-based moisturisers and hydrating, lightweight serums. These formulations will provide hydration without leaving your skin feeling greasy or overwhelmed. You can also try an oil-free or mineral-based foundation, as these allow your skin to breathe and stop your pores becoming clogged.

  1. Exfoliate for a Fresh Start:

Exfoliation is key to maintaining a glowing complexion all year round, but it can become even more important in the summer. Regular exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, allowing for better absorption of your skincare products and keeps than tan looking even. Choose gentle exfoliants like fruit enzymes or mild scrubs, to avoid over-stripping your skin. I like to exfoliate 2-3 times a week for a smooth complexion.

  1. Cool Down with Facial Mists:

Combat the heat and refresh your skin with the help of a facial mist! I often keep mine in the fridge for an extra cooling burst when the weather gets really hot. These spritzes not only provide an instant cooling effect, but also deliver essential nutrients to your skin. Look for mists infused with ingredients like cucumber, rosewater, or green tea, known for their soothing and antioxidant properties.

Until next time,
